POSTVENTION

Postvention Packages for Loved Ones: Our upcoming postvention packages will provide crucial support to families and loved ones who are grieving a suicide loss. These packages will be filled with comfort items, resources to help with the grieving process, and information about 'Monthly Coffee Conversations' —informal yet impactful gatherings where individuals can connect with others who understand their experience. The packages will serve as an immediate source of support, offering practical tools for coping and a safe space for individuals to begin their healing journey.

Postvention Workplace Programming: We are also developing a comprehensive Postvention Workplace Program to help organizations respond with empathy and understanding when an organization loses an employee, an employee experiences the loss of a colleague or loved one to suicide. This program will include training for managers, grief resources for employees, and strategies for creating a supportive work environment. By equipping workplaces with the right tools and guidance, we aim to reduce stigma, foster compassion, and help organizations respond proactively and thoughtfully.

COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT

In partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, the Houston Area Suicide Prevention Coalition (HASPC) is conducting a comprehensive Community Needs Assessment to analyze suicide-related data, epidemiological trends, and workforce capacity in our region. This assessment includes focus groups with community members, providers, and individuals with lived experience to explore the social, cultural, and systemic factors influencing suicide risk and response. Additionally, we are conducting a workforce survey to assess the challenges, resource gaps, and training needs of professionals working in suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis response. The findings will provide evidence-based recommendations for targeted interventions and policy strategies to strengthen prevention efforts across healthcare, behavioral health, and community settings. By combining data analysis with lived experience perspectives, this initiative aims to develop sustainable, community-driven solutions that improve access to care, reduce stigma, and save lives.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

HASPC is actively engaging diverse professional communities in meaningful conversations about suicide prevention and mental health. Through tailored community conversations, HASPC is connecting with groups such as legal professionals, the oil and gas industry, and other business sectors to address the unique challenges and stressors they face. These discussions provide a space for education, resource-sharing, and stigma reduction, fostering a culture where mental health is prioritized in the workplace and beyond. By meeting professionals where they are and facilitating open dialogue, HASPC is expanding the reach of suicide prevention efforts and encouraging industries to take an active role in supporting mental well-being.

TRAININGS & EDUCATION

HASPC is committed to equipping communities with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent suicide through education and training for all people, regardless of their background or profession. These trainings also focus on the unique needs of different populations, ensuring participants gain insight into the specific risk factors and challenges faced by various communities.
