Always Loved, Always Remembered
Ethan Thomas Somwaru
April 2000 - February 2015

"If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them."
- James O'Barr
Ethan was a light in the lives of so many, especially his family. His infectious energy, boundless kindness, and unwavering ability to make people laugh left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. As people talk about him the same words keep coming up—compassionate, funny, a goofball, a friend to all. His presence on the soccer field, his enthusiasm in the classroom, and his ability to bring people together made him unforgettable.
Ethan was truly the heart of his family. While others may have tried to be the center of attention, he won that role effortlessly, filling every room with his warmth, humor, and larger-than-life personality. His loss has left a hole in the hearts of those who loved him, one that can never be filled. It is overwhelming to know we have to live without his mile-wide smile, the sound of him calling our names, or the embrace of one of his signature bear hugs.
Ethan felt everything deeply—his joy was contagious, and his pain was profound. He lived with passion, always eager to make people laugh, even if it meant arguing a point (whether he was right or not) just to keep the conversation going. He had a knack for finding creative ways to prove his case—like calling the 1-800 number on a board game manual to have an official source agree with his interpretation of the rules. And if you ever had Ethan visit your house, chances are he left something behind—he had a way of unintentionally scattering his belongings wherever he went.
His quirks were part of what made him so special. Whether it was wearing shorts and t-shirts in the dead of winter or walking around the neighborhood in just his socks because he didn’t like shoes but also didn’t like being barefoot—those were the little things that made Ethan, Ethan. He was more than his humor, more than his quirks—he was one of the most genuine, caring souls. He loved deeply, saw everyone as a friend, and worked hard to be his best self.
Little children adored him, always quick to declare Ethan as their favorite. He was the first to suggest a game, to organize a kickball match, or to start a family-wide game of hide-and-seek. And when he hugged you, it was with all his heart, lifting you off the ground with the strength of his love.
Ethan was a beautiful thing. And though he is no longer with us, his spirit, his laughter, and his love will never fade.
